But, you know, Moyes will make one too many mistakes. Head Office will see what I already knew, and they go in there, they will march in there. They go, Right, yeah, Alex was right. You've pissed off him and you've pissed off him. You're not the manager you thought you were. Okay. So get out, we made the mistake. Then they drag him out by his hair and that's when the begging starts. They'll come to me and say, Ooh, Alex you were right all along, you were the right man for this job, you're the best man for this job. Will you come back? I'll be like, yeah sure how much money have you got? Because this is going to cost you, this is going to cost you.

We're both good in our own fields. I'm sure Fergie couldn't run and manage a successful paper merchants. I couldn't do what-, well, I could do what he did, and I think he knew that, even back then. Probably what spurred him on.

Football managers are like the Drivers of F1 cars.
If you have a shit hot car you are more than likely going to win the championship, as all the drivers who race at that level are good enough.

Farc, I was thinking of post war British managers of English teams. Mourinho deserves consideration but so to does the great Jock Stein.

So Mourinho as well then?

Three managers stand out to me. Paisley, Clough and Ferguson.

Now money has skewed the competitions such that small teams have to catch everyone unawares first time, like Porto, in order to win major competition.

Like I said before, Fergie turned them into a huge club, yes they were big before but with Fergie they hit the stratosphere

comma, how much of Cloughie's success down to Taylor?

Wasn't too big a hit at Leeds was he?

Re: Overrated managers. Let's start. Martinez
When you say nowhere near Fergie how do you define that? Don't forget that for much of the time Fergie had the biggest, richest club compared to provincial Forest. In addition Clough won consecutive European cups when arguably it was much tougher competition.

I can accept Fergie being our winningest manager but he was not streets ahead of Clough. Manu used to buy Clough stars and turn them into dross too.

No doubt old big'ead was a decent manager, you don't win two European cups for being a mug but nowhere near Fergie and how much of Cloughie's success was down to the Peter Taylor factor?

Valley, that's exactly my point. People look back and remember him fondly because he was a 'character' (not my favourite term, but you get the point). And because of that nostalgia, they come out with mental comments like he was a better manager than Fergie.

A few years in the sun, followed by a decade of mediocrity. No doubt he was a great manager, but let's be sensible about this.

ancellotti overrated? won trophies with five different clubs. the champions league twice with milan, the double in his only season in charge of the west london scum and another champions league in his first season at real madrid

Valley Hammer 4:08 Mon Nov 3
Re: Overrated managers. Let's start. Martinez
I take your point Eerie but I think it was only in his latter years that people began to like him. For many years he was one of the most disliked characters in the game.
